It was a Good Friday ride!

Our ride Friday and Saturday wasn't in the best weather. It looked like rain all the trip, but we only got rained on once. But it was cool and gray and blah.

But hell, gray and cool and blah on the back of a bike beats working every time!

We took the long way to Austin, stopping at cafes and icehouses. The magazine Texas Monthly put out a list of the 40 Best Small Town Cafes, and I made sure we stopped at one for lunch. It was good and cheap.

Then we were going to ride the Devil's Backbone, but we detoured to Wimberly for small town charm. A glass of wine and we were off to the Backbone. We stopped at the Devil's Backbone Tavern, which was a fabulously cool place. It is haunted! Better, it has no pretentions to being more than a beer joint.

Then we drove on to The Salt Lick. We waited forever for OK BBQ. Not great. Had better recently.

We hauled ass for Austin to watch the bats come out from under the bridge, but we got there too late. :-( I found a place near their drinking district for us to stay, but we were too tired to enjoy it. We pretty much went to bed early.

We met a friend for breakfast, and then headed home via more cafes and ice houses. We also stopped at a friend's son's 18th birthday party. That was a great party.

We went 543 miles. All of them pretty good.
