It's Election Day here. I've been looking forward to today for some time now. I'll admit to sneaking a peek coverage of the election today.
It seems that the Republicans are poised to take control of the House of Representatives, and possibly even the Senate. If so, that means that much of the Democratic overreach of these past two years can be repealed. The Democrats have ignored the will of the people, and hopefully will pay a heavy price.
As a response to the excesses of the Democrats, the Tea Party has emerged. I've seen commentators and pundits call the Tea Party movement a puppet of corporations (today's bogeyman). Others say that it is a result of racism, like this Pulitzer Prize winning clown does. They don’t seem to understand that the Tea Party movement is about limited government and a return to Constitutional principles.
We'll see if the Republicans see that too. The Tea Party is aligned for now with the Republicans, mainly because that's how you get the party in power—Democrats—out of office. There is some historical association between conservatism and Republicans as well. But the GOP better realize that this is their last chance. The Donkeys blew it, and the GOP better learn well what happens when you do.
But perhaps the GOP lean is fictional. This interesting slag indicates that some Dems think that the apparent GOP lead is because polling is wrong. Allegedly, pollsters don't call cellphones, and Democrats are way more hip than Republicans and have abandoned landlines and use only cellphones. Maybe that's true, but I think it is even more true that Democrats have a too-high opinion of themselves as elite hipsters. We'll see.
