One of my dearest friends is at the complete opposite end of the political spectrum. We often exchange our views publicly on Facebook, neither of us really convincing the other. But paradoxically, we also listen to each other, because we respect each other. We disagree without being disagreeable.
She wrote me today to suggest we create a joint blog or Facebook page where we take one or two issues a week and present our views. Maybe we end in disagreement, or maybe we reach consensus. Mainly we show that despite our differences, we love each other and there is no reason at all to descend into the ugliness that is threatening American politics.
So I agreed with her—she is quite irresistible, you know—but suggested that we wait until after the election so that we could judge the fallout of that.
