Today is "wear purple for solidarity with gays" day. Oh, it's not? It's actually about bullying? Or was gonna be? Now it is gay bullying? Um, bullying gays? Not for me.
Let me be clear: bullying is wrong.
But saying that gays are a special protected class is also wrong. They do not get more rights than I do, neither do they get less. Assault is equally a crime for gays and straights.
This all came about, if I get the facts right, because some number of gay students committed suicide after being bullied. That is very tragic. That is also a result of mental illness. There is a 100% relationship between suicide and mental illness. Why in the world would the gay community wish to highlight that their members are mentally ill? Much of the world suspects that they are, based on their sexual orientation. Why reinforce the notion?
In my area, a little boy in middle school killed himself because he was bullied about being Buddhist and Gay. I believe he was also partially autistic. You need to add to that list that he was mentally ill. How do I know? He killed himself.
One tragic aspect of this is that no one can question why a middle school boy thought he was gay. Who had been telling him that he was, or confirming to him that his suspicions were right? No one can question how much guilt is now shared by the gay lobby, which have pushed so hard to expand their "base", apparently into middle school. Now they have blood on their hands, but we can't talk about it.
So, I am sorry. I will wear a solidarity color against bullying. I will testify in court if I see someone assaulted because of their sexuality. But I am not affirming gay rights activists.
